La monnaie et ses mécanismes (1971), P. Berger

Being a rookie in currency science, this book serves as a good introduction. Quite frankly, I don’t understand everything from this primer. It all seems very complex to me. And maybe the complexity is the biggest takeaway for me.

With all the simple ideas politicians try to put in our head, getting a sense of just how complex currency is enlightening. This book helps me understand where the need for currency stems from, why gold is so important, why we’re moving away from gold, why the USD holds such an important place in the worldwide economy.

This reading also explains how our institutions try to regulate usage of currency and what this does for economic stability, both on national and international level.
